A Word on Ouija Boards

Nicole Chayka is the co-author of Fringe DwellerA word to the wise on Ouijas or ‘Talking Boards’ as they have been called for centuries. There are two schools of thought on what goes on during a seance and neither one should be treated as lightly as to call it ‘a game’.    A Ouija, like a pendulum or set of dice is nothing more than an ‘indicator’ that points to yes/no/maybe and or spells out words in order to communicate.  Some believe that it is our own unconscious mind pushing the indicator around giving us the answers to our own questions.  Others think it is messages from the ‘great beyond’.

I think its both.

Similar to muscle testing such as that used in kinesiology whereby we access our subconscious mind testing for allergic reactions, a pendulum or Ouija isn’t so dissimilar in methodology. The body doesn’t lie.  You ask and it tells the unbiased truth.  It can reveal to you what you already know, not what you don’t know.  It does not for example tell you the future.

Then there’s the other stuff.

You might think that Ouija boards are nothing more than a game made up by some toy company to incite the imaginations of kids but they are more, and they can be dangerous.  Actually, it kinda pisses me off that Parker Brothers put these things on the shelves like it was another board game they were selling instead of a gateway and communication tool for spirits. Yeah, let’s let a kid going through all the regular teenage stuff play around with that….good idea.  Teenagers are walking soap operas.  Combine all the regular world of adolescent soaps along with a jumble of emotional telekinetic energy and you have the making of a cesspool soup.  Negative energetic beings LOVE cesspool soup.  They nosh on it every chance they get.  It’s like mother’s milk to them so when you put a Ouija board into the hands of an unprepared, emotionally immature human caught somewhere between being a child and not quite an adult yet….you might as well open the front door to the spirit world, offer a complete stranger a beer and tell them to take a load off!

So now we’re gonna talk about rules, boundaries and limitations.  Thanks Caesar, it’s not just for dogs.

Poltergeists, or let’s call them assholes for short, enjoy playing with you if you are willing to offer up your ‘attention’ to them to take advantage of.  If you are silly enough to actually take them seriously, follow their advice, or think that they have some special insight because they are from ‘the other side’ they can create havoc and have great fun at your expense.  Teenagers therefore run a great risk of being ‘suckered’ by these assholes who prey upon them and looooove having their attention.  All that lovely teenage angst to manipulate and a willing pair of arms and legs to do their mischief.  What fun!  The best way to send them packing is to simply ignore them. Tell them to go away. Stop playing the game and giving your attention away to them and they’ll grow bored and move on.

It’s the last set of characters that worry me.

Just as in life, there are some dangerous entities who are disincarnate.  They are angry, violent and prey upon those who give them their ear.  Like all dysfunctional relationships they are control freaks, and when you get wise and pull away there is usually a tantrum involved.  Telekinetic energy can be frightening. Having little visits in your dream states when you too are disincarnate….equally frightening. Yes, once they have your attention they will try to isolate you so that they can prey on (and feed on) your negative emotional states.  In fact, they hang out in your energetic field (aura) noshing on negativity so if they can induce a state of fear or panic, or depression you have offered yourself up to them via your attention, and your emotional states to be their play thing.  Ever try to break up with a sociopath?  It will be that hard to get rid of them.

I recommend not inviting them in.

Don’t play. You may want to speak to a certain someone but it doesn’t work that way.  You have no control over who is going to show up.  If however you are going do it anyway and not heed my advice then remember that you are creator and your free will is everything.  Decree that only those of the light and love may answer your questions via this device.  Smudge the space before and after to cleanse any negative energies from your space.  And if you find yourself with any ‘cling-ons’ who don’t want to let go don’t be afraid to ask for help.  Isolation and keeping stuff to yourself is NOT the way to go.  Invite in the light.  Love and Light, Love and Light, Love and Light.  Sour the damn milk. Never, never, never keep stuff like this to yourself. If you don’t know about smudging seek out a local Shaman through a spiritualist church or organization and ask for help.

Now the fireplace is over there in the corner….place the board there.  They make damn good kindling.

Namaste, Nicole

“I was Taken Up to the Sky”

'Ask the Fringe Dweller' Question

Submitted on 2009/12/18 at 4:35 pm

Dear Monica:

I have had so many experiences that I do not fully understand but one that is pertinent to you is as follows:

I was taken up to the sky somewhere into a cave like structure or enclosure. I was hovering above the whole scene where I saw myself, in the center of the room lying on a bed made of stone or stones about three feet tall with several beings around me bending over me apparently working on me… with a strong and intense sense of urgency. I am fully aware of what they are doing to me and I know without a doubt they are trying to restore something in me that I had lost or killed off or something.

Then someone – a real person – entered the cave like dwelling and asked what was going on…, the answer came from no one in particular that this group was trying to restore me because I had been so negative for a period of time that my whole energy system was off and not working right.  This real person joined in with the other beings and began working on me with them. I do not remember what happened after that but I do remember the message loud and clear about being negative…

This felt so real to me Monica. What do you think happened to me?

What had I lost that they were restoring?  Or what was it I killed by being negative?
Any input from you would be so greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance,

Sandra

Excerpt of painting Grey Wolf from the book Fringe Dweller by Monica HolyHello Sandra,

It appears you’ve received a gift in the form of insight from your Higher Self.  There are many people who don’t remember their dream experiences. It felt so real to you …because it was. To remember in such depth  gives you a new awareness of something, that you now have the power to change. Only you truly know what the negative factor in your recent past might be. You are now in a position to become the ‘Observer of yourself’. I want to clarify here that I’m not talking about judgment, simply observing the words and actions occupying your life. Once you identify them, you can change them for the positive. Many times we are so taken up with our daily ‘stuff’, that we ignore the early signals that we’re on a path of self destruction. Eventually, these ‘symptoms’ of dis-ease will become evident in our body as disease. Both Dr. Wayne Dyer and Deepak Chopra go into great lengths of how ‘negativity’ can affect us. A wonderful book I’ve recommended often is The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz who goes into detail about how we tend to perceive things, and how we can change that. Thought is energy. We need to observe our beliefs, the thoughts and daydreams that are prayers answered by Source without judgment. These litanies shape our experience. So take care and be aware of what you think.

Sincerely, The Fringe Dweller

“Valley of the Shadow of Death”

'Ask the Fringe Dweller' QuestionSubmitted on 2009/11/25 at 10:02 am

Hi Monica, In the hospital last Christmas I had a dream.  The spirits were lined up walking into the hospital.  It was black and white.  To the right, of these souls in a row, was a valley.  I call this dream, the valley of the shadow of death.  I physically got out of this dream state, I got up and immediately told them I’m not coming.  A gust of wind blew the hospital door open.  The red light emergency lights flashed in the hospital hallway and a voice over the speaker said, “red alert, red alert, room 202.”  This was my room number.  The nurses ran down the hallway to my room and asked me if I was smoking! A power shortage had happened earlier that day, that was the explanation in this realm that was given the next day.  Any comments from you are appreciated.

Thanks. Sharon

Excerpt of painting Grey Wolf from the book Fringe Dweller by Monica HolyHi Sharon,

I often tell people to try and get the emotional gist of their dream experience. If your feeling sense of this dream is to call it ‘the valley of the shadow of death’, I would go with that. I don’t know what you were in the hospital for, but it sounds like you had this dream experience, and you clearly made a choice you weren’t ‘going’ with these souls to this ‘valley of death’.

In her book ‘The Other Side and BackSylvia Browne talks about us having several ‘exit points’ in our life, where we have the opportunity to ‘return home’. It sounds like you were faced with a choice, and you weren’t ready to check out yet!

“How do I keep myself centered when hearing Ghosts of loved ones?”

'Ask the Fringe Dweller' Question

Submitted on 2009/11/20 at 12:29 am

I have conversations with friends who passed, shortly after they died. It takes me days, sometimes weeks, to decipher their message. I find it very draining, because I can hear their voices and feel their vibes constantly for that short period of time. But once I understand the message and pass it around to loved ones, it gives them great relief. So, I know my experiences have a purpose.

I am wondering if I am only hearing ghosts of loved ones because I am afraid of being in contact with ghosts in general. Do you know of anyone who have developed the ability to be in contact with ghosts, beyond the few loved ones, and if so, could you direct me to some mentor or techniques? If not, do you know of any techniques to keep myself centered when I am being contacted by friends who recently died?

Martine

Excerpt of painting Grey Wolf from the book Fringe Dweller by Monica HolyHello Martine

I too feel my experiences have a purpose, and although I originally anticipated to expand my gifts to other areas, I found what worked for me best, was what showed up naturally, and so I was content to ‘be’ with that. However, I have noticed, that as my state of heart, mind and awareness change and grow, so do my gifts. That saying ‘The teacher appears when the student is ready’ I find very fitting. Community bookstores, spiritual and new age churches often post contact info for people or groups dealing with paranormal themes who can help. However do your due diligence to make sure they’re authentic. If you feel you are ready to expand your circle of experience, put that intention ‘out to the universe’, and you may be amazed at what comes back. Say it out loud, but with clarity of what exactly  it is you wish to expand. Here’s where you can protect yourself as you set some boundaries around the ‘how’ or ‘when’ you would like to help. I reference some protection techniques in the post ‘Am I opening a Door that I’m not ready for?‘.

Be careful what you ask for, you may find yourself surrounded by an entourage of ghosts/spirits that leave you feeling overwhelmed, and impede your daily life. Have you ever seen the wonderful comedy ‘Ghost Town’?  You may find yourself with a ‘take a number ‘ policy! I’ve heard Sylvia Browne ask that she only be shown the positive experiences, as opposed to the traumatic ones. I found John Edward’s book ‘One Last Time‘  insightful and humorous regarding dialogues with ghosts. Your very fear  ‘of being in contact with ghosts in general’ as you say, may be creating the boundaries of who contacts you. Fearfulness, or trepidation has it’s own frequency of vibration, and many spirits who have just  crossed over may not have the best communication skills either. Patience is required. If the message they are trying to communicate is not clear to you, clarify that you aren’t understanding, and ask them to try something different. If you choose to  ask for spirit guide assistance in your communication with the ghosts who have contacted you, ask to only work ‘with those of the light’.

Also, VERY IMPORTANT, is the following gem I learned from experience. Sometimes, a message that comes through does not make sense, because it’s not for you to understand. The meaning may be exclusive to the person it is intended, they will understand. The message can literally be lost in the attempt to translate. It’s most often the essence of what’s shown at face value. You can speak to the person the message is meant for, explaining that you don’t get the reference, but perhaps it may mean something to them, and then relay what you saw, heard, or felt.

Experience and flying by the seat of my pants has been my biggest teacher, and not necessarily something I recommend, however sometimes we have to go with what we have at our disposal.

Sincerely, The Fringe Dweller.

“Why do people linger in Infra Red before entering the Light?”

FD Question Mark_med5Submitted on 2009/10/01 at 9:30am

Why does it seem like some people hang around in infra red for so long before transiting to the light?

Cetah Johnson

For people new to the term ‘Infra Red’ , It’s the frequency spirits inhabit. I usually refer to it as the  ‘Pink Plane’, as that’s my colour of experience.  See reply to Veronica in Why some spirits choose to stay here? for my answer.

“Why do some spirits choose to stay here?”

FD Question Mark_med5

Submitted on 2009/09/29 at 10:02 am

Hi!

I heard you on Darkness Radio last Sunday night. It was very encouraging since I’m a natural medium and I feel so isolated because I live deep in the heart of the bible belt.

My question is: if no one dies alone, why do some spirits chose to stay here?

I have helped a few cross over, but not in the dream state. I keep wondering WHY. I hear that they have unfinished business, and I have felt that emotional state coming from some stuck spirits myself. I sometimes think that the power of emotion is greater than the power of thought and that perhaps, some of them are in some way mentally ill and unable to logically understand what’s happening.

What do you think?

Sincerely,

Veronica Smith, Tyler, Texas

Excerpt of painting Grey Wolf from the book Fringe Dweller by Monica Holy

Hi Veronica,

No one dies alone.

One of the hardest lessons I’ve had to learn was to let go of what capacity I show up to ‘help’ a person or spirit. We all have different gifts, and we all help each other in the ways we can. There are times I’m there to assist people during a time of crisis, just before they actually pass …and then immediately upon passing, my part is done…because they continue on, either on their own because they’re ready, or with the help of another ‘Fringe Dweller’ who’s waiting on the other side. Sometimes I’m the one on the other side, and I’ve connected with a spirit who’s vibrating at a state of confusion, chaos, and I’m there to love unconditionally without judgment, and calm them down with understanding and comfort.

Some spirits simply choose to stay. Death is a unique experience. Their emotional state at the time of their passing vibrates at a particular frequency. If that doesn’t change, they aren’t ready to  go to the light and there can be a variety of reasons.

Religious upbringing and certain beliefs can influence someone’s emotions.

Some are ready to cross over right away, while others need to be led to the light. Some go into a state of anger or regret that they’re not ready to let go of. There are lost souls who find me, because they are still in a state of confusion and they don’t know they’ve passed. I’ve had visits from spirits, who try to communicate the best way they can, sometimes in a clumsy manner because they’re still trying to communicate the way they would if they were still alive…so it takes them a while to realize that people aren’t responding the way they used to. However once they are acknowledged, they’re ready to cross over.

Some spirits  who have passed as the result of an accident, or tragedy, are not ready to go to the light without finding the family members who  passed at the same time. They’ll come to me and ask for help. As soon as I find and reunite them, they cross over together.

Sometimes spirits are in such an emotional state, they don’t initially recognize a Fringe Dweller is there to offer help.

Based on your comments regarding the power of emotions, I’d like to suggest Eckhart Tolle’s latest book   A New Earth…I think you’ll find it helpful, as he speaks in depth how emotions function and influence.

Sincerely , The Fringe Dweller

“Why don’t I sense her spirit around me?”

FD Question Mark_med5

Submitted on  2009/09/28 at 4:25pm

I lost my baby daughter before birth 14 years ago…..what are possible reasons as to why i don’t feel/sense her around me? (other than her doing things in the afterlife) she contacted me maybe 3 times, then nothing in the years since. i have never seen her spirit, even. thanks!

Excerpt of painting Grey Wolf from the book Fringe Dweller by Monica Holy

Hi Kim,

I can’t say specifically the reason you haven’t sensed her in years, however I can offer possibilities. When spirits cross over, time is irrelevant…years to us could seem like minutes to them. They also know that they will be reunited with their loved ones on the other side, therefore there is no urgency to frequently check in. They may choose to reincarnate for another earthly experience.

I also have lost a child before birth, and one of the condolences I take from that experience, is knowing I had a ‘soul agreement’ with this spirit, that this would be part of my journey, my experience. Although I felt sorrow, I also know that they were greeted on the other side with love.

Many people don’t remember their dreams upon waking, and are unaware of any astral visits…take comfort knowing they exist.

Sincerely, The Fringe Dweller

“Am I opening a Door that I’m not ready for?”

Submitted on 2009/09/27 at 5:37am

Dear Fringe.

As a kid, I actually believed I saw spirits. When I was told they weren’t real I stopped. When I was teenager, I saw some again. One was an actual ancestor Indian chief, full head dress and all. Then they would only appear at time of emotional crisis, and always they were positive and encouraging. Never a bad thought and always trying to teach me to use talents. And I have had great success in my career. So… I’d decided I wanted to do hospice volunteering. I thought that would be good to give back. But I’m worried. Will I be sensing more spirits. I encountered a few before recently. Non-threatening. But if I do this, am I opening a door that I am not ready for?

‘Wish to remain Anonymous’

Excerpt of painting Grey Wolf from the book Fringe Dweller by Monica Holy

Dear ‘Wish to remain Anonymous’.

This happens all too often…as kids we don’t question things…we have no inhibitions…it’s the behavioral conditioning that we’re brought up with, and surrounded by that starts to mold us with new beliefs. Even our culture, or the religion we’re brought up in has influences. I’m guessing that if I were to ask you, at the time you saw these spirits, in your heart you knew them to be real? As I said, I’m merely guessing this. It’s something to reflect upon and ponder yourself how you felt.

My spirit guides too come in low points of my life, and they have been of the deepest understanding, with a love so unconditional that’s astounding in its intensity…I find  words don’t properly reflect what I feel.

I think you are blessed to have these communications….what a gift your are receiving !

It sounds like you have a good heart…an open heart…which means yes you’re more likely to be sensitive to anything around you. You’re most likely empathetic as well. I ’d say you’re chances are pretty good to sensing more spirits if you allow yourself to be open to that experience.

I feel you asked the right question about potentially opening a door that you may not be ready for.  I don’t know your knowledge of these experiences, but you would do well to learn more about protecting yourself. Now I’m not plugging my book here when I say I go into steps to protect yourself, but to repeat all here would take too long, and if I simply cut and pasted my publisher would have a copyright fit…lol…..(hey, we need to keep our humor).

The simplest and quickest way to protect yourself when you feel unwanted energy, is to mentally surround yourself in white light…come up with a visualization that works for you. Have that bubble of white light extend out to your personal space as far as what feels comfortable for you Some people envision a cascade of white honey running down the top of their head to their toes…whatever works for you.

Now, most importantly…send love…mentally send love, extend love outwards…and repeat in your head or out loud as often as you need to…’ALL THAT IS NOT MINE, PLEASE LEAVE’.

You can even envision a mirrored box around you (I actually did a painting of this for chapter 4 of the book , called ‘The Greys’. You can view the painting THE GREYS on the website). It’s a two way mirror. You can see out, however those outside of your mirrored box, only see reflected back what they project onto you. It comes back to them, it doesn’t pass through your mirrors…only Love can penetrate in…and Love is what is sent out to them.

I’d like to recommend an incredible book that I feel could help immensely. It’s called ‘The Four Agreements’ by Don Miguel Ruiz…it’s a Toltec Wisdom book which fits nicely with your First Nation spirit guides. it was a huge help to me, it really enabled me to work with people…all people, those living and even those not.

I hope this helped.

Sincerely, the Fringe Dweller

Thank You: artwork from Chapter Two

acrylic on canvas = 2.5′h x 7.5′w

Artwork 'Thank You' by Fringe Dweller on the Night Shift author Monica Holy

THANK YOU

Dream Journal entry:

Thursday, April 30 2004

I lie on my bed, exhausted. I’m asking, “What’s next, what’s next?” in a habitual litany. I have been asking that question for the past four months as I saw my friend Lynn through her last days before she died of cancer. I have been working for those months through the nights, led and taught by the light beings who came to help me in the energy healing, and through the days to see to her physical needs. And now that it is over, the question echoes as if I have not quite let her go, as if there is something more that needs to be done.

I realize what it is. I have forgotten to thank all of those who came to help and teach me—the beings that exist on another plane, in another dimension, and bring their tireless and infinite love to the energy work. They had come to me in dreams with diagrams and charts, showing me where to lay my hands, how to direct and apply my energy. They had come with suggestions for diet and homeopathic remedies. They had given me love and guidance and support throughout every minute of the emotionally intense journey that I had been on with Lynn.

I am filled with gratitude, brimming with thanks for all that I remember of those days and nights. Suddenly, the room begins to fill with spirits—beings of light—pouring their love into me and into the air around me. There seem to be hundreds of them.

For a moment doubt makes me ask, “Is this really happening? Can this happen in waking hours?” My doubt is put to rest by the evidence of my own eyes, which see how the light emanates from their hearts, and see the infinite compassion shining on their faces. They float above the ground, swaying gently as seaweed does in the ocean’s tide. Whatever doubt I have is absorbed and set aside by the physical joy I feel in every cell of my body as gentleness and love lift me out of time and into the worlds beyond—the soul’s home.

As one, they raise their right arms and wave as if to say, “It’s all right that you forgot us. And you’re welcome” in a gesture of infinite generosity.
