You’re an Empath…I’m a What?

Nicole Chayka is the co-author of the paranormal book 'Fringe Dweller on the Night Shift'Empathy is a word that most of us can relate to.  Did I really just say that?  Bad joke.  Sorry, I should be taken out back and flogged with a wet noodle.

Bad, bad Nikki.

To empathize is a verb, but the first time I ever heard it used as a noun is a day I will never forget.  I was sitting across from an acquaintance who, among other things, did Psychometry. That fascinates me. To do psychometry, I think you have to be part Astral Projector and part blood hound to pick up that energy scent. She assisted the police in solving their cases by touching an object and getting a glimpse of information, hopefully about the whereabouts of the owner.  Naturally all of this was hush hush. After all, “What would people say if they knew the police used a psychic?”

Now Elaine had other gifts as well.  She could see a person’s Aura and tell you a little bit about yourself.  That day I had come for a reading that focused on my current life theme for this incarnation and she took me by surprise, by relaying her experience following me around at my last house party.  She told me that as hostess of said soiree I would greet each new guest and my aura would change. Wot?

Let’s say Tom’s aura was pink with purple polka dots. (not really, but you get the idea) Mine became pink with purple polka dots.  And Nancy?  Well, Nancy had zebra stripes so mine became zebra stripes. In short, my aura changed with each new person I met.  Weird, eh?  Not for an Empath.  Apparently, for us it’s normal. It’s what we do.  I then received notice from Elaine on what my childhood must have looked like.  Whoa!  Spot on.  How did I know it was unusual to hang out with every social group in high school from the jocks to the metal heads to the brainiacs to the punk rockers?   I was in with everyone.  I’m told that’s unusual.

So let’s review.  Every person on the planet has an aura.  Lots of neat information is stored there.  Stuff like your bodies’ health issues, past life information, unfinished karmic stuff attached to this life, and of course, emotions.  Deep seated emotions.  Even the stuff you’ve combed over with a rake and shovel and thought you had buried. or worse yet – lied to yourself about while playing the denial game, or maybe they ride close to the surface.  At any rate Empaths feel them, to the point it can be hard distinguishing somebody else’s’ stuff from their own, and as a child you can bet that screwed me up.

It also allowed me to see past the false bravado and bullshit that most people put up -or try to put out there as the ‘face’ they wish to show the world.  Got my ass kicked plenty knowing stuff I shouldn’t have said out loud. Some people didn’t like that. Ah well. On the flip side it also enabled me to feel what was authentic and relate to my peers on a whole other level.

I’ve come to see people in some ways as being divided against themselves.  They seem unaware that there is the personality or the emotions that people have –not unlike wearing articles of clothing on the body.  Underneath all that however is the ageless self.  That’s the part of us that comes along for the ride as the observer, watching without judgment all the soap operas and drama that the personality drums up.   None of it is real, but in our minds we create the story and then we create the emotions generated from it.  It’s all about point of view. All of it is real, and none of it is real.  I mean if I go through life with yellow sunglasses, guess what?  I color my perceptions in a swath of yellow, thus justifying my world view.  So, what color sunglasses are you wearing?

In summary (yes we are nearing the end so you can refresh your tea):

Empaths feel everything. We feel the full spectrum of human emotion right down to the key of G.  We feel you and it is how ‘I’ in large part experience my reality.  I tune into whatever, whoever is around me and vibrate on that bat channel for awhile to get their flavour. Of course I do have my own frequency on the radio dial and I park it there once in awhile.  The fact that we are all one makes it possible to do so, and at some later date when I’ve had enough wine and feel up to it, I’ll share what it’s like to have a visit with the dearly departed after they’ve shed their personality and their real self is revealed.

You, I, WE are beautiful baby. (just in case no one’s told you lately)

“How do I keep myself centered when hearing Ghosts of loved ones?”

'Ask the Fringe Dweller' Blog Question for Monica Holy author of 'Fringe Dweller on the Night Shift'

Submitted on 2009/11/20 at 12:29 am

I have conversations with friends who passed, shortly after they died. It takes me days, sometimes weeks, to decipher their message. I find it very draining, because I can hear their voices and feel their vibes constantly for that short period of time. But once I understand the message and pass it around to loved ones, it gives them great relief. So, I know my experiences have a purpose.

I am wondering if I am only hearing ghosts of loved ones because I am afraid of being in contact with ghosts in general. Do you know of anyone who have developed the ability to be in contact with ghosts, beyond the few loved ones, and if so, could you direct me to some mentor or techniques? If not, do you know of any techniques to keep myself centered when I am being contacted by friends who recently died?

Martine

I too feel my experiences have a purpose, and although I originally anticipated to expand my gifts to other areas, I found what worked for me best, was what showed up naturally, and so I was content to ‘be’ with that. However, I have noticed, that as my state of heart, mind and awareness change and grow, so do my gifts. That saying ‘The teacher appears when the student is ready’ I find very fitting. Community bookstores, spiritual and new age churches often post contact info for people or groups dealing with paranormal themes who can help. However do your due diligence to make sure they’re authentic. If you feel you are ready to expand your circle of experience, put that intention ‘out to the universe’, and you may be amazed at what comes back. Say it out loud, but with clarity of what exactly  it is you wish to expand. Here’s where you can protect yourself as you set some boundaries around the ‘how’ or ‘when’ you would like to help. I reference some Psychic Protection techniques in the post ‘Am I opening a Door that I’m not ready for?‘.

Be careful what you ask for, you may find yourself surrounded by an entourage of ghosts/spirits that leave you feeling overwhelmed, and impede your daily life. Have you ever seen the wonderful comedy ‘Ghost Town’?  You may find yourself with a ‘take a number ‘ policy! I’ve heard Sylvia Browne ask that she only be shown the positive experiences, as opposed to the traumatic ones. I found John Edward’s book   One Last Time insightful and humorous regarding dialogues with ghosts. Your very fear  ‘of being in contact with ghosts in general’ as you say, may be creating the boundaries of who contacts you. Fearfulness, or trepidation has it’s own frequency of vibration, and many spirits who have just  crossed over may not have the best communication skills either. Patience is required. If the message they are trying to communicate is not clear to you, clarify that you aren’t understanding, and ask them to try something different. If you choose to  ask for spirit guide assistance in your communication with the ghosts who have contacted you, ask to only work ‘with those of the light’.

Also, VERY IMPORTANT, is the following gem I learned from experience. Sometimes, a message that comes through does not make sense, because it’s not for you to understand. The meaning may be exclusive to the person it is intended, they will understand. The message can literally be lost in the attempt to translate. It’s most often the essence of what’s shown at face value. You can speak to the person the message is meant for, explaining that you don’t get the reference, but perhaps it may mean something to them, and then relay what you saw, heard, or felt.

Experience and flying by the seat of my pants has been my biggest teacher, and not necessarily something I recommend, however sometimes we have to go with what we have at our disposal.

Sincerely, The Fringe Dweller.

“I wish I could do Astral Projection.”

I was fascinated by the book Fringe Dweller on the Night Shift . Wish I could train myself to do astral projection.

Justin

Astral Projection…yes…like the character ‘Prue’ in Charmed.  That would be really cool!  As for training for that…hmmmm. No reason why it’s not possible. It’s completely  realistic if you consider that when I’m in my dream state, I’m traveling with my ethereal dream body. At the scene of an accident occurring in the ‘waking reality’, people close to death are aware of my presence. They look directly at me,  and see me, whereas the police, firefighters and paramedics on the scene clearly don’t. That to me indicates if someone is vibrating at a particular frequency…they CAN see your ethereal body.

So, if you work on your Lucid Dreaming skills, as in really interacting in them to a state of focused intent and control, it should be possible. A better understanding of meta and quantum physics would also be beneficial.

There are many books out there that go into great detail of the various states and levels of lucid dreaming. For a deeper  explanation, and technical approach, I suggest the book by  Toltec Dreaming: Don Juan’s Teachings on the Energy Body Ken Eagle Feather as he describes his experiences with the Monroe Institute.

Good luck with your ‘travels’.

Sincerely, the Fringe Dweller

“Does the Soul care if the body is cremated at Death?”

'Ask the Fringe Dweller' Blog Question for Monica Holy author of 'Fringe Dweller on the Night Shift'Submitted on 2009/11/13 at 3:58pm

Your book is a blessing and I have a question..does the soul care if the body is cremated at death?

Thanks Sara

Excerpt of painting 'Grey Wolf' by Psychic, artist Monica Holy, author of 'Fringe Dweller on the Night Shift'Hi Sara,

Thank you for your kind words, I hope you found the book Fringe Dweller on the Night Shift to be helpful.

So far, it has not been my experience that Cremation is an issue when a Soul Crosses Over. Strong  beliefs about something before you  cross over, can affect the frequency you vibrate at, and possibly influence what you envision as you cross over. Someone who is agitated, and feels there’s unfinished business, may feel strongly enough about something to have these emotional vibrations accompany them upon Death.  The power this has over you, comes from the importance you place upon it. One way to view our physical body, is that it’s the ‘package’, or ‘wrapping’ we showed up in. What’s inside, the Soul, has a Higher Awareness we sometimes lose touch with. I work primarily with Lost or distressed Souls, however, I have been blessed to accompany those who upon passing, embrace the knowing, the ‘remembering’ of where they came from, as they return to wholeness, to the Light and a Source that is in complete acceptance, and has  No Judgment.

Sincerely, the Fringe Dweller

“Why do Challenges accompanied by Anguish begin, when one is Introduced to the Spiritual side of their Journey?”

'Ask the Fringe Dweller' Blog Question for Monica Holy author of 'Fringe Dweller on the Night Shift'Submitted on 2009/11/10 at 1:20pm

Hi, why is it that when one is exposed or introduced to the spiritual side of
this journey generally the challenges begin?  If re-integration with god
(God/Universe) is what people look for within religion , spirituality etc.,  why the

depth of anguish that most go through  when they truly find it, especially in
this age? If spirits after making the transition have the same issues, what is to
be done on this side of the veil?

Corry

Excerpt of painting 'Grey Wolf' by Psychic, artist Monica Holy, author of 'Fringe Dweller on the Night Shift'Hi Corry,

You’re addressing a number of issues here. I have observed that by the time we recognize that we’re in a Spiritual ‘growth spurt’, we’re already working our way out of a quagmire, one of our own design if you consider that we wrote the Spriitual ‘Blue Print’ for our experiences for this earthly incarnation. Without the challenges to overcome, there is no growth, no expansion of awareness.  As for the ‘anguish’, the truth can hurt. We tend to recognize when others around us are in transition, however when holding the mirror up to our ‘self’, it  can be difficult to look into our own eyes without turning away. I like the Quote by Leslie Fieger, “Any fool can run towards the light. It takes a master with courage to turn and face the darkness and shine his own light there.” Depending on your beliefs around Reincarnation, you can either choose to work through an issue this time around, or repeat it the next time. Either way, the less ‘baggage’ you have upon your departure, the easier the crossing.

Sincerely, the Fringe Dweller

“I thought there was something very wrong with me, that’s why I hid it.”

'Ask the Fringe Dweller' Paranormal comments and testimonials for psychic, artist Monica Holy, author of 'Fringe Dweller on the Night Shift'

Hi,

I just wanted to say that I have had similar experiences in my life.  I have always known that I do not sleep at night and travel and do jobs elsewhere.  In the 1970s, while I was “sleeping”, I worked with Light Beings who rescued earthbound people and took them to the Light. I discontinued doing it because in this life I was to be a teacher and I needed to concentrate all my energy in that area.

Since then, I have used incorporation counseling method to do the same work while in trance.  It is not as effective method to help earthbound souls, but it helps.  I have seen so called “dead” people all my life, and like you, I learned at a very early age to keep it quiet.  I also see auras around people and on a few occasions, have given  readings for friends, but usually it wasn’t a good idea.  I was correct in what I saw and said, but I usually lost a friend over it “because it was too weird”, so I quit doing it.

I got no encouragement from my mother to be the “real” me; usually she accused me of lying.  When I was in my 50’s and she was living with me, she admitted she knew what was going on with me because her mother had been clairvoyant.  She said she didn’t want me to be like her mother, because it had caused a lot of friction in her family when growing up.  I could have enjoyed an ally as a child.  I thought there was something very wrong with me, that’s why I hid it. When I was 34 years old I met some people like me.  It made life so much nicer.

I can really relate to your experiences recorded in your book.  Thank you for writing it.  It is so nice to find a “kindred soul.”

Carolyn Poppen

Excerpt of painting 'Grey Wolf' by Psychic, artist Monica Holy, author of 'Fringe Dweller on the Night Shift'Dear Carolyn

I understand when you say you needed to concentrate all your energy to what you were doing in this life as a teacher. It’s utterly exhausting to continually ‘work overtime’. I found saying an Affirmation before sleeping such as ‘I will get all the rest I need tonight’ really helps. In my case when I was over exhausted my Guides would stand ‘guard’ at my bedroom door, redirecting those in need to other ‘Fringe Dwellers’ out there. We are not alone, and we can ask for what we need, a wonderful concept I didn’t discover until a few years ago myself!

Despite our feelings of isolation while growing up, perhaps we can now take consolation by making a difference for others. I feel communication and support without judgment is necessary for people to feel ‘safe’ enough to open up and share their experiences. I understand when you say ‘It made life so much nicer’ when you met others like you. To live one’s life in complete authenticity is very liberating, empowering, and loving.

I’m in a state of gratitude when I hear that this book has brought comfort to someone. Thank you for writing and sharing your experiences.  It was my very isolation growing up that sparked the need to share mine with the Fringe Dweller book.

So to other Fringe Dwellers out there I say… ‘Embrace you Freakdom!’, and as my friend Lynn repeatedly would say, ‘Don’t be afraid to be who you are.’

Sincerely, the Fringe Dweller

When the Gift isn’t.

Nicole Chayka is the co-author of the paranormal book 'Fringe Dweller on the Night Shift'I don’t want to sound like I am bitching, moaning, or otherwise kvetching…but I really need to lay down a foundation of honesty here.   Some people think it would be wild to be Monica, to have the ‘quote-unquote’ gifts she has, and I really want to be open to those toying with the notion to be careful what you wish for.  It’s not all fun and games.

Sure it’s cool to go gallivanting around the universe; to astral travel through time and space. Who wouldn’t like to explore or play with consciousness? It’s especially exciting if you can forget your human structure and allow your imagination to take you where it will.

But then there’s the bad stuff.

The stuff we try not to sensationalize or put a big ol’ strobe light on, nonetheless, it exists.  There are times when she is called upon to be a witness.  She can’t intercede or stop a harrowing murder, all she can do is be there for the person before, during and after they cross over, and all without condemning or even judging the murderer.

Could you do that?

I couldn’t.  I’m simply not evolved enough for that.  Sometimes she experiences the death along with them-the physical sensations, the thoughts in their heads, their life long memories.

Could you do that?

I couldn’t. I’m simply not strong enough for that. Sometimes she watches children die, and she has to accept that it was meant to go down this way, for a greater good that only our higher selves knows or understands.

Could you do that?

I couldn’t, and keep my sanity anyway.  Monica admitted that she tinkered on the brink before coming to terms with what was required of her so I say this with the utmost of compassion. Be careful what you wish for.  It’s not all a joy ride out there in the slipstream of consciousness.

But then again, sometimes, it is.

Namaste, Nicole

Paranormal Pajama Party

'Fringe Dweller on the Night Shift' Paranormal PJ Party book launch October 2009_PC Monica HolyIt can be hard to remember that “all is divinely perfect, and is as it should be”, when you’re throwing a Book Launch Party with no books.

After four long years of insanity getting Fringe Dweller from A to Z (meaning an idea stuck in my head, to that physical thing you can hold in your hands), no books. Welcome to my world, or rather my sandbox. Not the kind the cats go in, most of the time. The kind that wonderful and creative things happen in, spontaneously, if only you trust.

It’s a good thing I have an ironic sense of humour, and have had lots of practice learning to trust, or I might have been less gracious.  As it was, I laughed. Ah well. I believe you take what action you can, but then don’t berate yourself for the things outside your control.

From the ashes of chaos came the most fantastic experience. My friends came over to help celebrate and lord knows I owe  them for putting up with me these past few years – so the wine and sushi were flowing that night (it IS Vancouver after all.)   My partner and fellow author did a brief reading, and then we all stood around in our fuzzy slippers and PJ’s taking turns sharing our personal metaphysical stories.

You see, we decided that PJ’s were to be the theme of choice because I am after all a ‘lucid dreamer’ and the Night Shift stories happen when I’m asleep, so it seemed apropos.   Besides, it was laundry day.

What Magic!  Open Mic nite of the Paranormal unfolded as naturally as two bar flies trying to pick each other up after last call.  It was beautiful.  Like everyone had been sitting on some gigantic secret egg and finally the time was ripe to hatch.  It was like a load had been lifted.  I expected two or three stories to be told, but more than half of the group had an experience to share, and it was clear they felt relieved to have a safe environment for it.

So I want to present the following suggestion.  Throw a Paranormal PJ Party in your town – books are optional!  It’s a great theme and you can even hand out gifts for the wildest ensemble.  ‘Martha Stewart’ the theme as much as you like, but remember the point is to create dialogue.  Isn’t it time we all came out of the psychic closet? Maybe paranormal IS normal?  Oh, and by the way, if you do decide to host a party… pleeeease write in and let me know how it went.

Dream on, the Fringe Dweller

What’s your experience of God then?

Nicole Chayka is the co-author of the paranormal book 'Fringe Dweller on the Night Shift'Artwork 'Love's Light' by Monica Holy, psychic, artist and author of the paranormal book 'Fringe Dweller on the Night Shift'Take a deer in the head lights, cross it with a chipmunk on caffeine and you might get a visual of Monica doing her first Radio Interview.  I only got to witness the first 45 seconds as she ‘prepped’ herself as though cramming for a tenth grade algebra test because she kicked me out. (hmmm, wonder why?)

So we are celebrating the fact that she’s no longer a radio virgin to be sacrificed to the media gods as David Schrader of Darkness Radio was her first and for the most part, gentle interview.  Of course one listener phoned in the question, “So what’s your experience of God then?” Whoa!  No pressure tip toeing between being honest while in typical Canadian fashion not wanting to offend anyone.  I’m not going to tell you how that went down you’ll just have to download the Darkness Radio pod cast if you wanna hear how she side stepped that mine field.

It does beg the question to all of us though.  “What’s YOUR experience of Creator then?”

I mean have you had a direct experience or are you going on the say so of others?  Not trying to be an asshole here (just asking).  I suppose we’re gonna ruffle a few feathers with our answers especially if it runs contrary to everything you know, or everything you’ve been taught.  It’s scary to navigate without a compass but scarier still to go on blind faith.  I’ve always felt that believing something and knowing something are two very different things.  I mean you may have read about orgasms, heard about orgasms, but until you have an orgasm….you don’t know squat about orgasms.  Know what I mean?  Monica’s been in the presence of ‘Love’s Light’ dozens upon dozens of times as she’s led many to the light over the years.  I have only experienced source energy like that once, but once is all it takes to let you know there is something real and tangible out there and it’s experiential not something you can get from a book, not even ours.

Namaste, Nicole
